The WJ HSS-CO TiN Coated T-Type Stainless Pipe Tap Taper T-PT is the cobalt version of the TiN-coated T-type pipe tap, combining coating and cobalt substrate - the highest-rated pipe tap in this catalogue. The substrate is the difference from the plain HSS coated version: cobalt HSS-CO lifts the rating from HRC30 to HRC40. The coating cuts friction while cobalt holds hardness at temperature - and stainless fittings, sticky and work-hardening, need both. For better chip evacuation there is a spiral-fluted cobalt version; for better chip evacuation choose the cobalt TiN coated T-type stainless spiral pipe tap T-PT-SFT; for lighter duty go back to the TiN coated T-type stainless pipe tap T-PT; for plain carbon steel fittings go back to the T-type pipe tap T-PT. Substrate HSS-CO cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN coating, rated to HRC40. It cuts tapered pipe threads - both PT/Rc and NPT - in sizes covering nominal size 1/8"~2", 26 variants. Made in Taiwan. What is the difference between tapered and parallel pipe threads? Tapered threads (PT/Rc, NPT) seal on the thread flanks themselves and are common in hydraulic and pneumatic lines; parallel threads (PS/Rp, PF/G, NPS) keep a constant diameter and seal with a washer or O-ring. Are they interchangeable? No - the form and the sealing method both differ, and the wrong choice leaks. Typical applications: production pipe threading in stainless fittings, chemical and food-grade pipework, and high-value parts where failure is not an option.
