Product Description
The HT-HSSE-W is a straight flute tap made of cobalt high-speed steel (HSS-E) — straight flutes suit both hand and machine tapping. It comes in 12 sizes (thread dia 1/8~1", TPI 8~40). Supplied uncoated (bright finish). It handles carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper, with workpiece hardness up to HRC40. Typical applications: Whitworth hand tapping with a tap wrench in repair and assembly work, and shallow machine tapping in short-chipping materials such as cast iron. In the same H.T.D family: the alloy tool steel HT-SKS-W (27 sizes, thread dia 1/16~2"), the long-shank straight flute LHT-W, plus the spiral flute SFT-HSSE-W for blind holes and the spiral point POT-HSSE-W for through holes; HT-HSSE-W is HSS-E (cobalt), thread dia 1/8~1" in 12 sizes. Can it tap both blind and through holes? Yes; a straight flute tap holds chips in its flutes, so for deep blind holes or high volumes choose the spiral flute SFT-HSSE-W (blind holes) or the spiral point POT-HSSE-W (through holes). What if I need 7/16 or more than 1"? See HT-SKS-W (up to 2").
