The LHT-W is a straight flute tap made of cobalt high-speed steel (HSS-E) — straight flutes suit both hand and machine tapping. It comes in 28 sizes (thread dia 1/8~1", TPI 8~40, overall length 100~200mm). Supplied uncoated (bright finish). It handles carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper, with workpiece hardness up to HRC40. Typical applications: machine tapping of deep-set Whitworth holes, or where a flange keeps the chuck from getting close, reaching in with overall lengths of 100~200mm; straight flutes suit short-chipping materials such as cast iron. In the same H.T.D family: the Whitworth long-shank spiral flute LSFT-W (blind holes), the long-shank spiral point LPOT-W (through holes), the metric long-shank straight flute LHT-M and the standard-length HT-HSSE-W; LHT-W covers thread dia 1/8~1", with several lengths for most sizes. Can it tap both blind and through holes? Yes; a straight flute tap holds chips in its flutes, so for deep blind holes or high volumes choose the long-shank spiral flute LSFT-W (blind holes) or the long-shank spiral point LPOT-W (through holes). Which lengths at 1/2? Three: 100, 120 and 150mm (12 TPI).
