ANSWJLHT-WHSS Long Shank Hand Tap W LHTSold0pcsThe WJ HSS Long Shank Hand Tap W LHT is a straight flute tap with an extended shank, for deep workpieces and recessed holes a standard-length tap cannot reach. Shank length is the only difference - the straight flute geometry is unchanged, so it still suits both through and blind holes and still relies on reversing to break chips. Substrate is the same uncoated HSS rated to HRC30; for standard reach go back to the hand tap HT; for machine tapping of blind holes use the long shank spiral flute tap LSFT; for machine tapping of through holes use the long shank spiral point tap LPOT. Substrate HSS, uncoated, rated to HRC30. It cuts British Whitworth (W) threads, in sizes covering nominal size 3/16~1/2, 12 variants. Made in Taiwan. Why choose a straight flute rather than a spiral one for deep recesses? The straight flute has a stronger cutting portion, and since a long shank already gives up torsional stiffness, a weaker cutting portion would break more easily. What to watch? Reduce speed, keep it concentric, and clear chips often. Typical applications: tapping deep workpieces, threads at the bottom of recesses, and hand or machine tapping where clamping space is limited. The same family also includes the standard-length imperial hand tap HT (nominal diameter 1/8~1-1/2); use HT when the hole is shallow enough to reach. LHT (nominal diameter 3/16~1/2, overall length 100~150mm) is for deep holes or the bottom of a groove. For machine tapping switch to the long spiral flute tap LSFT (nominal diameter 3/16~1/2, overall length 100~150mm) in blind holes, or the long spiral point tap LPOT (nominal diameter 3/16~1/2, overall length 100~150mm) in through holes.
