The WJ HSS N-Type Long Pipe Tap Taper N-LPT is the long shank version of the N-type pipe tap, reaching pipe threads a standard-length tap cannot - most often needed in deep cavities such as valve and pump bodies. Shank length is the only difference from the standard N-PT - the straight flute geometry, the uncoated HSS substrate and the HRC30 rating are unchanged. The long shank solves reach; chip clearing still depends on the straight flutes and reversing, so peck more often in deep, chip-heavy holes; for standard reach go back to the N-type pipe tap N-PT; for better chip evacuation choose the N-type spiral pipe tap N-PT-SFT. Substrate HSS, uncoated, rated to HRC30. It cuts tapered pipe threads - both PT/Rc and NPT - in sizes covering nominal size 1/8"~1", 30 variants. Made in Taiwan. What to watch with a long shank pipe tap? Torsional stiffness drops while pipe threads already demand high torque, so reduce speed, keep it concentric and lubricate well. When should you use it? Measure from chuck face to hole mouth - switch only when a standard tap will not reach. Typical applications: pipe threads in deep cavities, valve and pump body threads, and pipe tapping where clamping space is limited. The same family also includes the standard-length N-type pipe tap N-PT in the taper form (nominal diameter 1/16"~1"); use it when the hole is shallow enough to reach. N-LPT (nominal diameter 1/8"~1", overall length 100~200mm) is for deep cavities in valve and pump bodies. When chips are heavy and evacuation is poor, switch to the N-type spiral pipe tap N-PT-SFT in the taper form (nominal diameter 1/8"~1").
