Product Description
The WJ HSS N-Type Pipe Tap Parallel N-PT is the straight flute N-type pipe tap, for machining pipe-fitting threads. Type and size band separate it from the T-type pipe tap: the N type covers the smaller pipe sizes while the T type reaches larger nominal sizes. Both are uncoated HSS rated to HRC30. The N type also comes as the spiral-fluted N-PT-SFT and the long shank N-LPT; for better chip evacuation choose the N-type spiral pipe tap N-PT-SFT; for larger pipe sizes choose the T-type pipe tap T-PT. Substrate HSS, uncoated, rated to HRC30. It cuts parallel pipe threads - PS/Rp, PF/G and NPS - in sizes covering nominal size 1/16"~1", 19 variants. Made in Taiwan. What is the difference between tapered and parallel pipe threads? Tapered threads (PT/Rc, NPT) seal on the thread flanks themselves and are common in hydraulic and pneumatic lines; parallel threads (PS/Rp, PF/G, NPS) keep a constant diameter and seal with a washer or O-ring. Are they interchangeable? No - the form and the sealing method both differ, and the wrong choice leaks. Typical applications: thread machining for piping, hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, valve bodies and pipe components, and on-site pipework.
