The WJ HSS TiN Coated T-Type Stainless Pipe Tap Taper T-PT is the TiN-coated T-type pipe tap, aimed at stainless fittings - same geometry as the T type, with a titanium nitride layer added. The coating is the difference from the uncoated T type; the rating is the same HRC30. Pipe threads are deep with large contact area, so friction and heat in stainless run far higher than in an ordinary threaded hole, and the coating shows up directly in tool life. For more heat resistance there is a cobalt version (HSS-CO, HRC40), and for better chip evacuation a spiral-fluted version; for more heat resistance choose the cobalt TiN coated T-type stainless pipe tap T-PT; for better chip evacuation choose the TiN coated T-type stainless spiral pipe tap T-PT-SFT; for plain carbon steel fittings go back to the T-type pipe tap T-PT. Substrate HSS with a TiN coating, rated to HRC30. It cuts tapered pipe threads - both PT/Rc and NPT - in sizes covering nominal size 1/8"~2", 26 variants. Made in Taiwan. What is the difference between tapered and parallel pipe threads? Tapered threads (PT/Rc, NPT) seal on the thread flanks themselves and are common in hydraulic and pneumatic lines; parallel threads (PS/Rp, PF/G, NPS) keep a constant diameter and seal with a washer or O-ring. Are they interchangeable? No - the form and the sealing method both differ, and the wrong choice leaks. Typical applications: pipe threads in stainless fittings, chemical and food-grade pipework, and production pipe tapping where tool life matters.
