The WJ HSS TiN Coated T-Type Stainless Spiral Pipe Tap Taper T-PT-SFT is the spiral-fluted version of the TiN-coated T-type pipe tap, combining coating wear resistance with spiral chip evacuation. Flute form is the difference from the straight-fluted coated version: straight grooves do not clear chips, spiral flutes pull them back out. Pipe threads are deep and chip-heavy, and blind or partly blind pipe threads depend on evacuation most. Substrate HSS with a TiN coating, rated to HRC30; a cobalt version (HSS-CO, HRC40) is available for more heat resistance; for more heat resistance choose the cobalt TiN coated T-type stainless spiral pipe tap T-PT-SFT; for through holes or lowest cost choose the TiN coated T-type stainless pipe tap T-PT; for plain carbon steel fittings go back to the T-type pipe tap T-PT. Substrate HSS with a TiN coating, rated to HRC30. It cuts tapered pipe threads - both PT/Rc and NPT - in sizes covering nominal size 1/8"~2", 26 variants. Made in Taiwan. What is the difference between tapered and parallel pipe threads? Tapered threads (PT/Rc, NPT) seal on the thread flanks themselves and are common in hydraulic and pneumatic lines; parallel threads (PS/Rp, PF/G, NPS) keep a constant diameter and seal with a washer or O-ring. Are they interchangeable? No - the form and the sealing method both differ, and the wrong choice leaks. Typical applications: blind-hole pipe threads in stainless fittings, valve and pump body threads, and chip-heavy stainless pipe tapping.
