ANBWJSFTO-UNCHSSE Oversize Spiral Flute Tap American SFTSold0pcsThe WJ HSSE Oversize Spiral Flute Tap American SFT is a spiral flute tap cut deliberately oversize, used to rescue stripped threads or to compensate for shrinkage in castings and die castings. Pitch-diameter tolerance is the difference: the thread is cut oversize so it can still grip in a hole that has already stripped. The substrate is cobalt HSSE rated to HRC40. Note that an oversize thread needs a matching oversize screw - a standard screw will not hold; for through holes use the oversize spiral point tap POT; for standard threads go back to the standard spiral flute tap SFT. Substrate HSSE cobalt high-speed steel, uncoated, rated to HRC40. It cuts both American UNC coarse and UNF fine threads, in sizes covering nominal size #4~1/2, 64 variants (8 nominal sizes x coarse and fine threads x 4 oversize steps). Made in Taiwan. Is an oversize tap the only fix for a stripped thread? No - you can also tap up to the next size or fit a thread insert. The advantage of an oversize tap is that the screw position and hole location stay unchanged. How do you pick the amount of oversize? By the grade marked in the size text, and make sure your screws match that grade. Typical applications: repairing stripped threads, compensating hole size in castings, and rescuing threaded holes during maintenance.
