Product Description
The HSSV TANOI TF Fluteless Tap Short M TFS is TANOI's short-thread forming tap - also chipless - with a shorter forming section and a smaller thread range. Forming length and size band separate it from the long-thread TFL: shorter engagement means lower torque, so small threads and thin parts are less likely to twist the tap off. Substrate HSSV high-vanadium steel rated to HRC30. Forming needs a ductile material - brittle materials such as cast iron are unsuitable; for greater clamping strength choose the TANOI forming tap, long thread type TFL; for the Taiwan-made equivalent choose the nitrided forming tap FMT; for brittle materials such as cast iron use the TANOI standard spiral point tap GN. Substrate HSSV high-vanadium high-speed steel, uncoated, rated to HRC30. It cuts metric M threads, in sizes covering nominal size 1.4~6mm, pitch 0.3~1, 9 variants. Made in Japan. Why use the short type on thin parts? A thin part has no depth for a long thread anyway, so the long type only adds torque without benefit. What pilot size? Use a forming-tap pilot table, not cutting-tap figures. Typical applications: chipless tapping of thin parts and small threads, precision component work, and lines standardised on Japanese tooling.
