ANSWCHT-SKS-UNCSKS Hand Tap American HT-SKSSold0pcsThe HT-SKS is a straight flute tap made of alloy tool steel (SKS) — straight flutes suit both hand and machine tapping. It comes in 75 sizes across UNC, UNF, UNEF and UNS (thread dia #0~2", TPI 4-1/2~80). Supplied uncoated (bright finish). It handles carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper, with workpiece hardness up to HRC30. Typical applications: Unified (UN) hand tapping with a tap wrench in repair and assembly work, and shallow machine tapping in short-chipping materials such as cast iron. In the same H.T.D family: the Whitworth HT-SKS-W, the sewing-machine thread HT-SKS-SM, plus the American spiral flute SFT-HSSE and spiral point POT-HSSE; this series covers 27 UNC coarse, 31 UNF fine, 14 UNEF extra-fine and 3 UNS sizes. Can it tap both blind and through holes? Yes; a straight flute tap holds chips in its flutes, so for deep blind holes or high volumes choose the spiral flute SFT-HSSE (blind holes) or the spiral point POT-HSSE (through holes). Which TPI at 1/4? 20 for UNC, 28 for UNF and 32 for UNEF; follow the drawing.
