It handles carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper, with workpiece hardness up to HRC30. Typical applications: hand tapping and re-tapping of sewing-machine (SM) threads in sewing machines and small mechanism parts. In the same H.T.D family: the sewing-machine thread spiral flute SFT-HSSE-SM and spiral point POT-HSSE-SM (14 sizes each, HSS-E); HT-SKS-SM is alloy tool steel, thread dia 5/64~3/8 in 25 sizes, with extra-long versions for some sizes. Can it tap both blind and through holes? Yes; a straight flute tap holds chips in its flutes, so for deep blind holes or high volumes choose the spiral flute SFT-HSSE-SM (blind holes) or the spiral point POT-HSSE-SM (through holes). Which TPI at 1/4? Three: 24, 28 and 40; follow the drawing.
