It comes in 27 sizes (thread dia 1/16~2", TPI 4-1/2~60). Supplied uncoated (bright finish). It handles carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminium and copper, with workpiece hardness up to HRC30. Typical applications: Whitworth hand tapping with a tap wrench in repair and assembly work, and shallow machine tapping in short-chipping materials such as cast iron. In the same H.T.D family: the HSS-E (cobalt) HT-HSSE-W (12 sizes), the nut taps NT-L-SKS-W and NT-S-SKS-W, plus the spiral flute SFT-HSSE-W for blind holes and the spiral point POT-HSSE-W for through holes; HT-SKS-W is the most complete Whitworth range, thread dia 1/16~2". Can it tap both blind and through holes? Yes; a straight flute tap holds chips in its flutes, so for deep blind holes or high volumes choose the spiral flute SFT-HSSE-W (blind holes) or the spiral point POT-HSSE-W (through holes).
