Taper-shank drills have a Morse Taper shank that seats directly in the spindle or sleeve, centering on the taper and transmitting torque—for larger diameters and high-torque drilling. The taper gives high rigidity and concentricity without slipping, common on drill presses and boring mills. Mainly HSS, also carbide. Confirm the Morse Taper number (e.g. MT1–MT5) matches the spindle interface, and select by diameter, depth and material.
