AYDWJNCSDHSS-CO NC Spot Drill NCSDSold0pcsThe WJ HSS-CO NC Spotting Drill NCSD is made for CNC and NC machine tools: its job is to place an accurate spot before the real drilling starts, and it doubles as a chamfering tool for hole mouths. Keep the distinction from the CD centre drill clear: CD is a form tool for lathe centre holes (60°, diameter 1~5mm), while NCSD is purely for spotting and chamfering, runs 3~25mm in diameter on a cobalt HSS-CO substrate rated to HRC40, and adds stainless steel and cast iron to its listed materials - a far wider working range. A TiN-coated version of this product is also offered for longer life in continuous production. Substrate HSS-CO, offered uncoated or TiN-coated. Sizes cover diameter 3~25mm, flute length 12~60mm and overall length 50~150mm, in 10 variants. Made in Taiwan. Why spot first at all? A drill's chisel edge has no guidance at the moment of entry, so an uneven or sloped surface pushes it off position - most visibly with long or small-diameter drills. A spot locks the hole location down. Can it chamfer? Yes, chamfering is a listed use for this series. Can it cut stainless? Yes - listed materials include carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminium, copper and other non-ferrous metals. Typical applications: spotting before CNC drilling, chamfering and deburring hole mouths, and pilot work ahead of long drills. The same family also includes the CD centre drill (60°, diameter 1~5mm, overall length 35~100mm), made for lathe centre holes and in plain HSS without cobalt. For positioning ahead of CNC drilling and for chamfering hole mouths choose the NCSD; switch to the CD only when a lathe tailstock centre must seat in the hole.
